Pattaya —
A fire at an animal hospital in Pattaya killed two cats and forced several people to escape.
At 07:30 AM on January 9th, the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Center received a report of a fire at Doctor Ja Animal Hospital in Soi Phonpraphanimit in Pattaya. Several people were reported injured and trapped inside the building. After receiving the report, the rescuers coordinated with the Nongprue Municipal Disaster Prevention Unit, who sent fire trucks and an aerial ladder truck to the scene.
The scene was a 3-story commercial building with two connected units. A large amount of smoke was seen billowing from the building, and on the third-floor balcony, six residents, including adults and children, were found calling for help. The rescuers instructed them to move to the second-floor balcony, where they successfully brought them down using the aerial ladder. All individuals suffered minor smoke inhalation but were safe.
According to firefighters, the fire originated from the front area on the first floor. They sprayed water to extinguish the flames, which were quickly contained. The source of the fire was identified as a fish tank and a rack containing pet-related equipment, both of which were partially damaged by the fire.
Inside the first floor rear and the second floor, many pet cages were found, housing eight dogs and seven cats. Most of the animals were frightened and distressed. Unfortunately, two cats died from smoke inhalation. The hospital staff and rescuers worked together to move the surviving animals out of the building.
Mrs. Anusara Saisaat, the 40-year-old owner of the animal hospital, explained to local media that before the fire, she, her family, and the staff had been sleeping in the building. They were suddenly awakened by loud noises from outside. Upon opening the window, they smelled smoke, so they quickly went downstairs. Upon opening the door, they were met with heavy smoke filling the front hallway, forcing them to escape to the third-floor balcony.
Fortunately, a good Samaritan had already alerted the authorities. The animals were later transferred to nearby animal hospitals for temporary care. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical short circuit. The police will continue investigating to determine the exact cause.
