Pattaya —

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden Pattaya and China’s Sanya Yazhou Bay signed a major agreement to research and develop new types of bougainvillea.

At 9:00 AM today, January 8th, Mr. Kampol TanSajja, President of Nong Nooch Tropical Garden Pattaya, alongside representatives from Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City Investment Holding Co., Ltd. of the People’s Republic of China, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to create, collect, research, and develop new types of bougainvillea to be shared worldwide.

The goal is to exchange information and genetics, develop breeding techniques, create new strains, and establish a platform for sharing data about bougainvillea varieties.

Furthermore, the two parties will work together to compile and publish a “Global Bougainvillea Varieties List” before 2027. This collaboration will enable both gardens to house the largest collection of bougainvilleas in the world. The agreement will last for three years, from May 1st, 2025, to April 30th, 2028.

The Hainan Sanya Bougainvillea Science and Technology Park is the largest bougainvillea science and exhibition park in the world and the largest bougainvillea breeding center in China. Nong Nooch Tropical Garden Pattaya is recognized as one of the ten most beautiful gardens in the world, with the largest collection of bougainvillea. Both institutions are renowned for their expertise in bougainville research and cultivation.
