Private Tents and Luxury Setups Cause Concerns on Jomtien Beach

Pattaya —

Tents and luxury setups on Jomtien Beach spark complaints as locals question if these activities are legally allowed.

On January 4th, The Pattaya News reporters received complaints from local residents regarding camping tents and luxury tables with decorative lighting set up on Jomtien Beach, Pattaya. This raised questions about whether such activities were permissible under Thai law.

Upon inspection at the beach, it was found that several businesses had used areas of Jomtien Beach to set up beautifully decorated tables and chairs to attract tourists. The concerned locals stated that these actions ignored regulations that prohibit the use of public beaches for commercial gain or the placement of items that obstruct public spaces.

Additionally, some individuals were seen pitching camping tents on the beach, anchoring them, and enjoying themselves with food and drinks.

Local residents have called on authorities to take serious action to restore public space. This area, notes TPN media, has had multiple issues and complaints over the years of vendors and restaurants encroaching on public land, also causing noise and disrupting the environment, alleged local residents.

Some vendors, like umbrella and beach chair vendors, are allowed on parts of the beach but under very strict rules. Vendors are entirely prohibited on the Na Jomtien portion of the beach.
