Sri Racha —
Sri Racha authorities seized over 47,000 e-cigarettes worth 10 million baht at Laem Chabang Port in Sri Racha in a major crackdown on illegal imports.
On December 24th, at Laem Chabang Port in Si Racha district, Chonburi province, Pol. Lt. Col. Yutthana Pae-Dam, Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), and Mr. Direk Kocharak, Deputy Director-General of the Customs Department, held a press conference to announce the seizure of e-cigarettes.
The crackdown was in line with the policy of Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongthan Shinawatra, who ordered a crackdown on harmful and illegally imported goods, especially e-cigarettes, to protect public health.
On December 22nd, the Customs Department and the DSI conducted a joint operation to inspect a suspicious container at Laem Chabang Port after receiving information that e-cigarettes might be concealed among other goods from China.
Upon inspection, over 47,495 disposable e-cigarettes worth more than 10 million baht were found. E-cigarettes are classified as prohibited goods under the Ministry of Commerce’s 2014 announcement, which bans the importation of e-cigarettes and hookah products into Thailand.
As a result, the e-cigarettes were seized and the case was forwarded to the Laem Chabang Customs Office for legal proceedings. Throughout 2024, the Laem Chabang Customs Office has already seized 25,690 e-cigarettes in 9 cases, with a total value of over 11.9 million baht.
