On December 22nd, 2024, the Royal Thai Police disclosed that over 739,000 online crime cases were reported between March 2022 and November 2024, with damages exceeding 77 billion baht.
Thai authorities highlighted four major online scams to raise public awareness:
- Romance and Investment Scams: Fraudsters use fake social media accounts to build trust, promising gifts or inviting investments.
- Impersonation Calls: Scammers claim to be friends, asking victims to guess their identity before borrowing money.
- Fake SMS Alerts: Messages lure victims with sweepstakes, promotions, or fake package delays, often linking to phishing websites.
- Fake Call Centers: Impersonating officials, scammers pressure victims to transfer money or install malicious apps under false claims of wrongdoing.
The public is urged to stay vigilant, protect loved ones, and report scams at local police stations, online at www.thaipoliceonline.go.th, or via the 1441 hotline, available 24/7.
