Pattaya —
On December 20th, 2024, Thai national media reported that Pattaya City painted a rainbow crosswalk on Beach Road, in front of the Royal Garden Plaza, and on Pattaya Second Road in celebration of the newly enacted same-sex marriage law in Thailand, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.
This location is a popular spot for both Thai and foreign tourists, with many crossing the street to reach the beach. The rainbow crosswalk enhances pedestrian safety and serves as an eye-catching landmark for tourists to take photos as a memento.
The installation symbolizes equality and diversity, reinforcing Thailand’s image as a country that supports human rights.
Furthermore, Pattaya continues to develop infrastructure to support tourism, and the Rainbow Crosswalk is seen as a proud addition to the city’s sustainable tourism efforts.
Pattaya is also planning on a major event to celebrate the marriage equality act on Valentine’s Day of 2025. The law goes into effect on January 22nd, 2025. Pattaya plans to brand the city as an “All Genders Friendly” Destination next year and encourage and welcome people no matter their identification or sexuality.
