At 5:00 PM on December 7th, 2024, a tragic accident occurred in Kamphaeng Phet’s Mueang district, involving a pickup truck carrying 13 passengers.
The group consisted of male and female secondary school students from a local school, returning home after winning a seven-player football tournament in Khlong Khlung district, according to Kamphaeng police.
The accident claimed the lives of two students, aged 14 and 15, who died at the scene. Twelve others, including the driver, sustained various injuries. Emergency responders provided first aid and transported the injured to Kamphaeng Phet Hospital for urgent treatment.
Police investigations revealed that the driver, the parent of one of the football team members, was intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level of 147 mg%, far above the legal limit of 50 mg%.
Authorities detained the driver for questioning, but tensions escalated when parents of the victims attempted to confront the driver at the hospital. Police had to intervene and quickly move the driver to the Kamphaeng Phet police station for safety.
The Kamphaeng Phet Hospital blood bank issued an urgent appeal on Facebook at 10:00 PM, calling on the public to donate blood to aid the injured students.
