Pattaya —
A 66-year-old Canadian tourist tragically died after slipping on stairs and hitting his head on a statue at a luxury Jomtien Beach resort.
The incident was reported to Pattaya police at 3:34 PM on December 4th, 2024, prompting police and rescue workers to rush to the scene at a luxury resort near Jomtien Beach, Pattaya.
At the site, officials found the deceased, identified publicly as Mr. Giroud Gilbert, a 66-year-old Canadian tourist. He was wearing a casual t-shirt, shorts, and black sneakers. His body was found face down at the base of the resort’s entrance stairs, with his head against the edge of a concrete statue of a Thai dancer placed near the second step. Rescuers attempted CPR but were unable to revive him.
Resort staff told police that the deceased had been a guest since December 2nd. He had scheduled his check-out on December 9th. Prior to the incident, he was seen leaving the resort, likely for exercise, before returning. As he walked up the three-step staircase leading to the resort, he reportedly slipped, causing him to fall and strike his head against the statue.
Police inspected the victim’s ninth-floor room and found three suitcases containing clothing and personal items, a laptop with its charger, and electronic equipment. On top of the refrigerator, they discovered a box of medication and syringes, believed to be part of the victim’s medical treatment. These items were collected as evidence.
Police plan to review the resort’s CCTV footage. The victim’s body was transferred to Banglamung Hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death, and authorities have contacted his embassy and relatives to inform them of the tragedy.
