Bangkok Tugboat Collision on Chao Phraya River Damages Five Boats, Sinks One

At 10:56 AM on December 4th, 2024, a tugboat carrying a sand barge lost control near Krungthep Bridge in Bangkok’s Bang Kho Laem district, colliding with multiple docked boats.

The accident damaged four other moored vessels, including a 200-seat passenger boat, and caused a 45-seat speedboat to sink.

Bangkok Rescue and fire services from Yan Nawa Fire Station quickly responded, reporting one woman sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The Department of Marine and local police are investigating the incident.

Footage from the scene shows the large tugboat swerving uncontrollably down the Chao Phraya River, striking various vessels moored at the pier.

The collision impacted several private and public boats, including a ferry and tourist boats, resulting in significant damage and the loss of one vessel.
