Pattaya– A terrifying incident unfolded when a train collided with a sedan, resulting in severe damage and serious injuries. The accident occurred on the railway on Soi Khao Talo near Pattaya at 7:00 PM on November 19th.
CCTV from the accident was posted on our Facebook account HERE.
Pol. Lt. Ratchapol Seniwong Na Ayutthaya, Deputy Chief of Investigation at Banglamung Police Station, received the report and promptly headed to the scene with the Sawang Boriboon Foundation rescue unit from Pattaya City. Upon arrival, they found a red Suzuki SUV completely crushed and stuck on the railway tracks. About 50 meters away, a diesel locomotive was found stationary with minor front-end damage.
The rescue team discovered the injured driver, identified as Mr. Kraiwit Hirun-ueaworakul, 36, a freelance football coach at a youth academy in Pattaya. He had sustained a fractured skull, abrasions, and was in shock, but not seriously injured and was fully cognizant and spoke with reporters. The rescue team administered first aid before transporting him to Banglamung Hospital.
Mr. Kraiwit recounted the harrowing experience, explaining that he was returning home when he encountered heavy traffic at the railway crossing. As he attempted to cross, the wooden barrier came down, allegedly trapping his car due to the traffic. Despite honking to alert the car in front, he was unable to move. Hearing the train’s horn, he resigned himself to the imminent collision and, in a split-second decision, turned the steering wheel to the right, allowing the train to hit the car from behind. This maneuver ultimately saved his life, though he sustained light injuries.
Mr. Thawatchai, 39, the train driver, stated that he was driving to Rayong Province when he saw the sedan on the tracks. He sounded the horn multiple times and tried to brake, but the brakes allegedly failed, leading to the collision.
The police have documented the scene for evidence and plan to question both the injured driver and the train operator as part of the legal proceedings to determine liability or if the train barriers malfunctioned.
