Pattaya —
A Russian woman in Pattaya was allegedly punched in the face by a Bolt motorcycle taxi driver after asking him to slow down due to safety concerns.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning, November 17th, as the 41-year-old real estate agent, identified only as Anna, was traveling from Soi Kasetsin to her residence in the Khao Phra Tamnak area, using the popular motorcycle ride-hailing Bolt service.
According to her statement, the driver, a Thai man, was speeding, so she asked him to slow down as she feared she might get into an accident, especially since she was not wearing a helmet. This reportedly led to a heated argument, and the driver then stopped near a traffic kiosk and allegedly punched her in the face several times.
The punches caused bruises and injured Anna’s lip. The driver immediately fled the scene after a passerby intervened.
The bystander, identified as Mr. Surasak Burapan, a technician at the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel, witnessed the altercation and assisted Anna in filing her complaint at the Pattaya Police Station.
Anna also recorded the incident, which revealed the attacker as a tall, slim man in his 20s with dark skin. The footage also captured the driver accusing her of not paying the fare before riding away. Police are reviewing the evidence as part of their ongoing investigation and looking to arrest the still at large suspect.
Bolt corporate, which is not based in Thailand, has also reportedly been made aware of the incident but often considers its riders independent contractors, so it is unclear what actions they will take.
