Heavy Rain Causes Floods and Traffic Chaos in Pattaya

Pattaya —

Heavy rain flooded several roads in Pattaya, causing long traffic jams and submerging vehicles ahead of the Loy Krathong Festival.

At 5:36 PM on November 14th, heavy thunderstorms hit Pattaya and lasted for about an hour. The downpour caused flooding in several areas, especially in spots prone to regular flooding, such as Khao Talo Road along the railway, Soi Wat Thamsamakkhi, and Sukhumvit Road in South Pattaya, both toward Sattahip and Bangkok.

Flooding also occurred on Chalerm Phrakiat Road (Third Road) near Paniadchang Intersection.

Water levels ranged from 20 centimeters to around 1 meter, making it impossible for small vehicles and motorcycles to pass through. Many motorists took shelter under nearby shop awnings, while a few attempted to drive through the floodwaters, only for their engines to stop, forcing them to push their vehicles through the water.

On Chalerm Phrakiat Road, barriers placed by officials to block off construction areas were swept away by the flood. The rain also took place during the evening rush hour, leading to severe traffic congestion on the main flooded roads. Cars were stuck for a long period until the water gradually receded and the situation returned to normal.
