On November 13th, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya Juangroongruangkit announced preparations for large crowds expected during the Loy Krathong festival on November 15th.
Authorities anticipate a surge in both domestic and international travelers participating in celebrations across Bangkok and provincial areas.
Suriya instructed agencies to enhance travel accessibility and ensure safety across road, rail, air, and water transport. Aviation authorities, including the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and Airports of Thailand (AOT), have intensified public messaging to discourage the use of drones, fireworks, sky lanterns, and other aerial objects near airports, warning that violations could lead to legal consequences.
This month, air traffic is expected to reach 73,500 flights, marking a 36% increase from last year, according to Suriya.
In Bangkok, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has added 2,638 buses, extending routes past midnight to serve festival-goers, with special traffic officers deployed to manage safety at busy stops.
Likewise, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is adding carriages to trains, reinforcing safety measures at stations, and increasing security patrols and CCTV monitoring nationwide.
These efforts are part of the Ministry’s aim to ensure a secure, efficient experience for the public while promoting greater use of public transit in line with environmental sustainability goals.
