Trang —
On November 12th, 2024, Mr. Aram Yankaew, the district chief of Hat Samran, and local officials gathered to commend Mr. Withit Yanglang, a 26-year-old fisherman, for his heroic actions in saving two boys from drowning at Tase Pier, Trang.
On November 11th, Withit reportedly witnessed two 11-year-old boys struggling in deep water near the pier, where they had been playing unsupervised. As one boy began to sink, his friend jumped in to help, but both were quickly overcome by the strong current and the water’s depth, about 8–9 meters.
Noticing their distress, Withit immediately jumped from his boat, 40-50 meters away, and swam to their aid.
Security footage from the pier captured the rescue, showing Withit quickly reaching the boys, who were exhausted and beginning to go under. He managed to pull both boys safely to shore, where they coughed up seawater and gradually recovered.
One of the boys reportedly developed a mild fever and was given a day off school to rest.
The incident drew widespread praise after the video circulated online, with many recognizing Withit as a local hero. Aram, who inspected the footage, expressed his deep admiration for Withit’s selflessness and reported his bravery to the Trang governor.
The governor plans to formally honor Withit with a certificate at the next provincial meeting to celebrate his courageous deed. Withit humbly remarked that he was only focused on saving the boys, adding that he hopes the incident serves as a reminder for safer play areas for children away from the pier’s dangerous waters.
