Son on Drugs Sets Family Truck on Fire Near Pattaya, Flees Scene

Pattaya —

A 28-year-old Thai man set his family’s pickup truck on fire and destroyed their house during a violent outburst, allegedly caused by illegal drugs, near Pattaya before fleeing the scene.

At approximately 10:00 PM on November 11th, Banglamung police received a report of a man destroying his family’s property and setting a pickup truck on fire in the Takhian Tia area near Pattaya. After receiving the report, police rushed to the scene with a team of local rescue workers.

Upon arrival, officials saw several local residents working together to extinguish the fire that was burning a gray Isuzu pickup truck. However, the vehicle had eventually been completely destroyed by the flames.

The house’s walls, a fan, and other household items were also damaged. The suspect, the unidentified son of the homeowner, had fled the scene before authorities arrived, leaving behind angry neighbors cursing and condemning his behavior.

Ms. Supawadee, the 48-year-old mother of the suspect, revealed that her 28-year-old son was her beloved child. She said she always tried to provide for him and never imagined he would fall into drug addiction and become violent.

Before the incident, her son had been searching for a rare coin, though no one knew what he meant by it. When no one could find the coin, he began smashing household items, threatening to kill his parents, wife, and child. Ms. Supawadee eventually decided to file a police report after being unable to bear it any longer.

However, while she was at the police station, she received news that her son had doused their pickup truck with gasoline and set it on fire. Ms. Supawadee decided to press charges and urged police to arrest her son, hoping that he would receive treatment for his drug addiction.

During a search of the house, police discovered a loaded .38 caliber revolver hidden in a bag, along with another disassembled firearm and various rounds of ammunition. These were seized as evidence. Ms. Supawadee reported that her son was carrying another firearm when he fled and urged authorities to quickly catch him, as he might harm others or commit further crimes.

However, she also pleaded for police not to hurt him, blaming his drug addiction for his behavior and wanting him to go to rehab.
