Chonburi —
Chonburi police and public health officials arrested an allegedly unlicensed clinic owner who offered medical services to locals without proper permission.
The operation took place in Banglamung district, targeting a medical clinic, which was accused of being run by an unlicensed individual. The operation involved sending an undercover agent, posing as a customer, with a marked 1,000-baht note to receive a drug test at the clinic.
After the agent signaled that the transaction had been completed, police and public health officials moved in to arrest the owner, identified only as Mr. Krit, 47, who was administering the test. Officers found the marked money in the clinic’s cash drawer and discovered that Mr. Krit had issued medical certificates without proper licensing.
Police also found that the clinic had not applied for the necessary permits, and the back of the clinic was equipped with tools resembling a small lab. Numerous used medical test kits were found in a trash bin.
Mr. Krit reportedly admitted to being a government-employed medical technician, commonly known as a “lab doctor,” at a hospital in Chonburi. He reportedly confessed to operating the clinic for about a year and claimed he had already prepared the paperwork to apply for a permit but had been too overwhelmed with work to submit it.
An initial investigation revealed that while Mr. Krit had a professional medical license, he did not have a license to operate the clinic. Authorities charged him with operating a medical facility without a permit and conducting medical services without authorization. He was taken to Banglamung Police Station for further legal proceedings.
