Agoda predicts that Thailand’s tourism will return to pre-COVID levels by 2025, with nearly 39 million visitors expected.
On November 6th, Agoda CEO Mr. Omri Morgenshtern stated that Thailand’s tourist arrivals could surpass pre-pandemic numbers next year, with around 39 million international visitors coming to tour the country.
Factors driving this recovery include the Thai government’s visa waiver policies for various countries and increased flights. Mr. Omri pointed out that, if there are no major missteps, Thailand could even exceed its 2019 record of tourist arrivals.
Mr. Omri further noted that Thailand is still a highly attractive destination, with 46% of travelers returning for their second, third, or even fourth visits, second only to Japan. As of now, Thailand has already welcomed over 29 million tourists and is approaching its 2024 target of 36.7 million.
Hong Kong media reported that in 2019, Thailand earned around 2 trillion baht from nearly 40 million international visitors. Currently, Chinese tourists represent the largest group visiting Thailand, with almost 6 million visitors this year.
However, Thailand may fall short of its goal to generate 3 trillion baht in tourism revenue this year due to global economic downturns limiting travel spending, Mr. Omri added. He also warned that Thailand’s new electronic travel authorization (ETA) system could add extra costs or complex procedures that could deter potential visitors.
