Sattahip —
A Sattahip traffic police apologized after assaulting a 13-year-old boy, with the family accepting the apology.
The incident took place on October 26th when the officer, whose name was not revealed to the media, pursued a young boy on a motorcycle after hearing loud noises caused by the boy’s broken exhaust.
The officer reportedly punched the boy five times and threatened to take legal action against him. However, this led to the boy’s family filing a legal complaint against the officer, prompting Sattahip police to arrange a meeting where the officer apologized to the boy and his family.
The officer expressed remorse for his unthoughtful action and promised he will never do it again. Meanwhile, the family, including the boy, accepted the apology.
Ms. Phonlada, the boy’s mother, told police that if the boy’s motorcycle was too loud, there were better ways to handle the situation, such as issuing a warning or summoning the boy’s parents, rather than resorting to violence.
As for disciplinary action, Sattahip police revealed it will depend on an investigation by provincial-level authorities. The findings and decisions regarding the officer’s punishment are still pending.
TPN media notes that thirteen is under the legal age to operate a motorbike in Thailand. It was unclear if there would be any legal action for this matter.
