A pickup truck driven by an allegedly intoxicated Chinese man crashed into a home decor store in Pattaya, causing extensive damage early this morning. However, the driver claimed he swerved to avoid a motorbike driving against traffic before the accident.
At 2:06 AM on October 31st, Pattaya police received a report of a car accident on Sukhumvit Road near Thepprasit Intersection in Pattaya. Upon receiving the report, officers coordinated with rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon Foundation before rushing to the scene, along with reporters from The Pattaya News.
At the location, a white Ford Ranger pickup truck was found crashed into a roadside store selling home decoration materials. The collision caused significant damage to the shop’s windows and property inside. The truck also sideswiped a bronze Mercedes-Benz, causing damage to the right side of the Mercedes.
The driver of the pickup truck was later identified as Mr. Zhang Yuelei, a 42-year-old Chinese man, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, according to rescue workers. The police quickly took him to the police station for a breathalyzer test and further investigation.
However, the unidentified shop owner reported that the Chinese driver of the pickup claimed that a motorcycle rider had been driving against traffic, causing him to abruptly swerve to avoid it and crash into the store. Pattaya police are verifying this claim by reviewing CCTV footage.
