On October 29th, 2024, Michelin-starred chef Supinya “Jay Fai” Junsuta, famous for her iconic Bangkok street food, clarified rumors about her restaurant’s potential closure in 2025.
Jay Fai stated that the speculation began when she attended a high-profile UN fundraising event, where she was asked if she planned to retire at age 80. She mentioned that while it was an idea she had considered, she had no immediate plans to stop, emphasizing her restaurant would remain open as usual.
Recent online rumors suggested Jay Fai might be closing her restaurant due to age and the challenges of maintaining Michelin standards for quality and ingredients.
However, she confirmed she is not retiring anytime soon and has upcoming international engagements, including in France. Jay Fai expressed her pride in Thailand’s cuisine, highlighting its unique quality and encouraging chefs to prioritize authenticity.
Jay Fai’s restaurant currently operates four days a week—Wednesday through Saturday. She also shared her hopes for the Thai government to create dedicated food streets for tourism and welcomed Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who recently expressed admiration for her culinary contributions, to visit her restaurant.
