Chinese Man Arrested at Chatuchak Market for Using Fake Banknote

Bangkok – A Chinese man was arrested at the Chatuchak Market after attempting to purchase eyeglasses with a counterfeit 1,000 Baht banknote. The incident took place on Sunday, October 27th, when the owner of an eyeglass shop reported the matter to the Bangsue Police.

The shop owner informed the police that a Chinese man had bought 200 Baht eyeglasses using a fake 1,000 Baht note. Responding promptly, relevant police arrived at the scene and confirmed that the banknote was indeed counterfeit. The suspect, identified only as Mr. Su, a 45-year-old Chinese national, was arrested at the shop.

During the arrest, police seized 95 additional counterfeit 1,000 Baht notes from Mr. Su, each marked with the word ‘copy’. Mr. Su was subsequently taken to the Bangsue Police Station for further questioning. He claimed he was unaware that the banknotes were fake but police were skeptical as to this claim due to the amount of notes found and the word copy on them.

An investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the source of the counterfeit currency and Mr. Su remained in custody as of press time.
