27 Bangladeshi Nationals Caught Attempting Illegal Entry into Thailand

Sa Kaeo —

At 3:00 AM on October 26th, 2024, Thai military forces from the Aranyaprathet Special Task Force intercepted a group of 27 Bangladeshi nationals illegally crossing into Thailand near Sa Kaeo province’s natural border channels with Cambodia.

Using night cover, the group was seen traversing local sugarcane fields after crossing from Cambodia, according to the officers. Task force operatives moved in, surrounding the group and detaining all 27 men, who carried Bangladeshi passports but lacked any valid Thai entry stamps.

Initial investigations revealed that the men had come to Cambodia seeking work, but reportedly struggled with low wages and unreliable employment.

According to their statements, a Bangladeshi agent in Cambodia arranged for their travel through Thailand, promising opportunities in Malaysia. Each person reportedly paid 420 US dollars to this agent, who claimed transportation to Thailand’s southern border would be provided.

However, before any vehicle arrived, Thai authorities intercepted the group. They have since been transferred to Khlong Nam Sai Police Station for legal processing on charges related to illegal entry and potential human trafficking involvement.
