Pattaya —

An Uzbek woman was arrested in South Pattaya for overstaying her visa and allegedly trafficking women for prostitution abroad.

The suspect, identified only as 34-year-old Ms. Gumi, was arrested by Chonburi Immigration at a condominium in South Pattaya on October 16th. She was charged with overstaying her visa for two days.

However, a background check revealed that Ms. Gumi was also wanted under an Interpol Red Notice issued by Uzbekistan. According to the warrant, she had been involved in organizing and trafficking young Uzbek women for prostitution in foreign countries.

Several members of her trafficking network had already been arrested in Uzbekistan. This forced Ms. Gumi to escape to Thailand. After the Interpol warrant was issued, she went into hiding in Pattaya, where she overstayed her visa until she was eventually apprehended by Chonburi Immigration officers.

Ms. Gumi is facing legal action in Thailand. Pattaya police will then hand her over to Chonburi Immigration for detention at the Immigration Bureau’s holding facility before her deportation back to Uzbekistan.
