Pattaya —
A group of Indian tourists sparked outrage online from Thai netizens after being caught littering into the sea at North Pattaya Beach, despite warnings by a nearby local resident to stop.
An online uproar erupted after TikTok user @yotin224 posted a video showing a group of foreign tourists, identified by the video owner as Indian, drinking and throwing bottles into the sea at North Pattaya Beach.
The group, consisting of three men, continued to throw garbage into the sea, despite being warned in English by the video owner to stop. This prompted the local to film the incident as evidence and threaten to call the police, forcing the tourists to eventually leave the scene. However, they reportedly mocked the local and laughed at him before leaving.
According to Mr. Yothin, the person who filmed the video, he saw the Indian tourists throwing bottles into the sea and approached them to warn them. He politely told them in English not to litter, but they ignored his warning and continued their behavior.
After posting the video on social media, it sparked widespread criticism, gaining over 1.4 million views as of press time. Many viewers expressed outrage and called for the tourists to be prosecuted by police.
Pattaya police have contacted Mr. Yothin to ask for details of the incident and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the tourists. They said if the tourists have not yet left the country, they will face legal action.
Mr. Yothin urged both Thai and foreign tourists to keep the beach clean to maintain its beauty for everyone to enjoy.
