Royal Thai Army Wins Medal at Cambrian Patrol Event in First Ever Participation

National —

On October 16th, 2024, Lt. Col. Pawina Sribuachum, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army, announced that a small Thai Army unit participated in Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2024 in Wales, UK, from October 4th to 13th, marking Thailand’s first-ever entry into the event.

The team, comprising eight soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment, 11th Infantry Division, was selected after winning the 2024 Thai Army Small Unit Tactical Competition in August.

Competing against 111 teams, including 37 international teams, the Thai Army unit excelled in the grueling event and earned a Cambrian Patrol medal. Despite facing extreme cold and rugged terrain, the team was commended by the British Army for their outstanding performance. The Philippines’ Marine Corps was the only other ASEAN force to win a medal.

The Cambrian Patrol is a 48-hour endurance event testing tactical awareness, battlefield medical care, reconnaissance, and problem-solving under challenging conditions.

This year, soldiers faced close combat drills, casualty evacuation, and obstacle navigation in mountainous environments, while carrying full equipment over long distances.

Participation in this event not only tested the soldiers’ physical and mental toughness but also strengthened military ties with other nations. The Thai team’s success was a key moment in Thailand’s growing international military cooperation, stated Lt. Col. Pawina.
