On October 6th, 2024, Mr. Nikorndej Plangoon, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the evolving situation in the Middle East.
A meeting on October 5th evaluated the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, as well as tensions in neighboring countries, which are expected to intensify.
The ministry and the Royal Thai Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, have been closely monitoring the situation, maintaining constant contact with the Thai community in Lebanon.
The Consular Department issued ongoing warnings to Thai nationals in the region, offering evacuation support and advising those in high-risk areas to relocate to safer zones. Most Thai citizens are now in Beirut, and one Thai national has already returned to Thailand with their family.
The embassy is coordinating with employers to assist five Thai massage parlor workers wishing to return home. However, about 100 Thai nationals, many with families in Lebanon, have chosen to remain, waiting to see how the situation unfolds, according to the spokesperson.
The embassy continues to monitor the situation closely, maintaining communication with all Thai nationals and the Honorary Consul in Lebanon. Evacuation plans are in place, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Thai citizens in high-risk areas to consider leaving while flights and airspace remain accessible.
