On October 3rd, 2024, Lamphun Governor Suntithorn Yimlamai announced a flood warning after the Irrigation Office 1 in Chiang Mai reported the water level of the Ping River at point P1 had exceeded 3.7 meters due to heavy rainfall. It is expected that the river could overflow in Lamphun by approximately 7:00 PM.
As of 9:00 AM, the water level at P1 has been steadily rising, surpassing 3.7 meters, with projections indicating it will exceed the critical level of 4.2 meters by 4:00 PM. Continuous rainfall in northern provinces, including Chiang Mai, is contributing to the rising water levels, with a large water mass expected to reach Lamphun by this evening. Heavy rains in the area will likely exacerbate the situation.
Local administrative organizations (LAOs) urged to issue warnings, particularly for those living along the Ping River. Residents are advised to prepare by moving belongings to higher ground, securing electrical equipment, and cutting off power in areas likely to flood.
Local authorities also cautioned the public to avoid floodwaters, as there is a risk of electric shocks.
Suntithorn emphasized that the Ping River is likely to overflow in Lamphun around 6:00 PM. He urged residents to contact emergency services via the Disaster Hotline at 1784 or the Damrongdhama Center Hotline at 1567 for assistance. Local leaders, including village chiefs and district officers, are on standby to provide 24-hour support.
