National —
The number of Chinese tourists to Thailand during the Chinese National Day holiday is expected to fall short of expectations due to bad weather and changing travel behaviors, according to Mr. Sanphet Supabornsatien, an advisor to the Eastern Thai Hotels Association (THA).
Mr. Sanphet stated that Thai hotel operators are hopeful for an influx of Chinese tourists during China’s National Day holiday from October 1st to 7th, 2024. However, according to him, there have been several adjustments and delays in travel plans from Chinese tour companies due to unpredictable weather in Thailand, fluctuating flight prices, and shifting travel behaviors among tourists.
These factors might cause the number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand to decrease during the upcoming important holiday period, although Mr. Sanphet noted that the number of Free Individual Travelers (FIT) has increased.
While hotel operators have been improving services to accommodate these changes, natural disasters is still a key factor in tourists’ decision-making. Even though there have been no cancellations, travel plans have been postponed or adjusted, impacting the expected tourist arrivals, Mr. Sanphet concluded.
