Third Suspect in South Korean Ransom-Murder Case in Pattaya Arrested in Vietnam

Pattaya —

The third and final suspect in the notorious case of a South Korean man, who was murdered and stuffed in a cement-filled barrel before being dumped in a Pattaya reservoir, has been apprehended in Vietnam.

This case centers on the murder of 34-year-old South Korean national Eui Jong Roh, who was kidnapped and killed by fellow South Korean nationals in Bangkok in May 2024.

After failing to collect a 3 million baht ransom from the victim’s mother, the suspects murdered Roh, placed his body in a 200-liter barrel filled with cement, and then dumped it in a reservoir in Pattaya.

Arrest warrants were issued for three suspects, and two of them were captured in May, including Lee Roun, who was apprehended upon returning to South Korea, and Lee Young Jin, who was caught after fleeing to Cambodia.

On September 24th, 2024, reports from Vietnam confirmed that the third suspect, Kim Hyeonggwon, was arrested in the Dong Da district of Hanoi on September 23rd. He had fled from Thailand to Laos and then illegally entered Vietnam by land.

Hyeonggwon traveled to Da Nang before moving to Hanoi, where he stayed at various small hotels. Vietnamese authorities are now working to extradite him to South Korea to face legal consequences.
