Thai PM Confirms Continued Digital Wallet Program, Kicks Off Cash Transfers to Vulnerable Citizens

At 9:00 AM on September 25th, 2024, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra presided over the “Kick Off” ceremony for the 2024 Economic Stimulus Program, which transfers funds to welfare cardholders and disabled individuals.

Paetongtarn confirmed that the Thai government’s digital wallet initiative would continue, ensuring equal access to aid and convenience for all citizens. The goal is to enhance happiness and provide equal opportunities for everyone.

On the same day, 10,000 baht was distributed to 14.5 million vulnerable people in the first phase of the program, targeting welfare cardholders and disabled individuals. Payments are being transferred via the PromptPay system linked to their national ID numbers between September 25th-30th.

It was reported that more than 2.1 million disabled individuals and welfare recipients with ID numbers ending in 0 received their payments already as of press time. Subsequent payments will be made based on the last digits of ID numbers over the following days.
Furthermore, Paetongtarn video-called several recipients of the 10,000 baht stimulus, who expressed gratitude to the government for supporting the public.
