Dog Mauls Elderly Woman Riding a Bicycle to Death in Pathum Thani

Pathum Thani —

On September 24th, 2024, Sam Khok police officers received a report of a fatal dog attack involving a 67-year-old woman in Sam Khok, Pathum Thani who had been out riding her bicycle.

Rescuers and paramedics from Sam Khok Hospital attempted CPR, but the woman, publicly identified as Ms. Daeng Thamthanta, succumbed to her injuries. She had been severely mauled, with deep wounds covering most of her body.

According to the officers, investigators found a large trail of blood on the road and bloodstains on her bike, about one kilometer from the scene of the attack.

Ms. Kiatkanok, 48, the dog’s owner, revealed that the dog, named “Poi Kai,” had been with the family for five years along with seven other Thai dogs. Although Poi Kai had reportedly never shown signs of aggression before, but, he had recently attacked two family members and her youngest daughter, who is still receiving daily wound care.

Kiatkanok believed the dog escaped from his cage on the day of the attack and now sought help from the Watchdog Foundation, as she could no longer care for him.
Initially, local authorities documented the scene and transferred the victim’s body to the Ministry of Justice’s Forensic Science Institute for further examination.

Earlier this month, a Lopburi teen was fatally killed by an American Bully dog, a different breed, but which also brought attention to dog attacks in Thailand.

In July, an elderly Thai man was attacked by three American Bully dogs in Khon Kaen and also killed.
