National —

On September 16th, 2024, Pol. Maj. Gen. Jaroonkiat Pankaew, the Deputy Commander of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), participated in a remote meeting with officers in flood-affected areas to enhance the flood relief operations center.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Jaroonkiat reported that four police regions—Regions 1, 4, 5, and 6—are currently affected, with Regions 4 and 5 being the most critical. Eleven police stations are flooded, including four in Nong Khai and seven in Nan and Phayao. Several police residences are also under repair due to flood damage.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Jaroonkiat expressed concern over the potential misuse of donations, emphasizing strict legal action against fraudsters taking advantage of the disaster. He also warned about criminals looting vacant homes during the floods, promising severe penalties for such offenses.

He further praised the efforts of police, military, and volunteers, including jet ski clubs aiding in rescue operations as police boats struggled against strong currents. Twelve new jet skis will be procured for future flood emergencies.

Additionally, Pol. Col. Pornsak Laorujiralai, the Acting Commander of the Marine Police Division, stated that authorities have been closely monitoring the floods since August 22nd, establishing a command center for rapid response.

Although water levels in Chiang Rai have decreased, preparations are underway for possible flooding in Ayutthaya, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, and Ubon Ratchathani. He also reiterated that those exploiting the disaster for criminal activity will face harsher legal consequences.
