Police Nab Iranian Duo for Repeated Theft in Bangkok

National —

On September 17th, 2024, Thonglor police arrested two Iranian suspects for stealing cash from a Chinese tourist in Soi Sukhumvit 20, Khlong Toei, Bangkok.

The suspects, Mr. Dinarvand, 29, and Ms. Mirzaniapargoo, 41, were apprehended in front of a condominium in Sathorn district. The two allegedly befriended the Chinese tourist outside a hotel in Soi Sukhumvit 20, engaging in conversation about currency exchange before requesting to see the cash.

After returning the money, the Chinese victim (whose name was withheld by the police) later realized 10,000 baht was missing and reported the crime to the Thonglor Police. Investigations revealed the suspects had committed a similar crime in the Asok area, stealing more cash from another victim before fleeing.

Thonglor police traced their escape route via CCTV footage and arrested them as they were reportedly preparing to flee the country.

Initially, both suspects reportedly denied the charges, but evidence suggested they had a history of professional theft. They are now facing charges of theft.

Meanwhile, a similar crime occurred in Pattaya as a Pakistani national reported to the police that two foreign tourists asked to see a Pakistani banknote before pickpocketing him.
