Pattaya —
Heavy rainfall caused significant flooding in Pattaya, leaving roads impassable and stranding vehicles in waist-deep water.
The rain lasted for over an hour early Wednesday, September 18th, causing temperatures to drop and water levels to rise significantly, reaching over 90 centimeters in some areas.
As a result, several main roads became impassable for small vehicles, particularly those frequently prone to flooding during prolonged rain, such as the railway road from Khao Talo to Wat Tham Samakki, Sukhumvit Road heading from South Pattaya to Central Pattaya, and Chalerm Phrakiat Road near the Paniat Chang intersection.
Pattaya Special Affairs officers were deployed to assist residents and inform motorists to avoid flooded roads to prevent damage to their vehicles. However, some drivers chose to drive through the floodwaters, leading to engine failures as water entered their vehicles, with many cars stuck in the deep water.
One driver, 21-year-old Mr. Supachai, told The Pattaya News that while he was driving with his girlfriend along the railway road, his car was swept into a water-filled ditch. He and his girlfriend had to quickly climb out of the car and wade through waist-deep water to safety, leaving the car to gradually sink. Fortunately, neither of them was injured.
The rain continued to fall steadily for some time before eventually stopping. According to the Thai Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected in parts of eastern Thailand from September 17th to 23rd, 2024.
