Pakistani Tourist Allegedly Pickpocketed by Other Foreigners for $900 USD on First Day in Pattaya

Pattaya

A Pakistani tourist allegedly lost $900 to two foreign pickpockets on Jomtien Beach in Pattaya early Monday morning, September 16th, 2024. The incident occurred shortly after the victim had arrived in Pattaya for the first time.

At 2:36 AM, Mr. Farrukh U, a 33-year-old Pakistani national, filed a complaint with Pattaya police after allegedly falling victim to two pickpockets while walking along Jomtien Beach. He claimed that the thieves stole 900 US dollars, equivalent to around 30,000 Thai baht, from his wallet without him noticing.

Mr. Farrukh, who is a tailor in Pakistan, explained that this was his first time visiting Pattaya. While he was walking along Jomtien Beach, two men, who appeared to be foreigners but it was unclear exactly where they were from, approached him and started a friendly conversation. One of them then expressed interest in seeing banknotes from his home country, claiming he had never seen Pakistani money, and Mr. Farrukh agreed and showed them the banknotes.

During this distraction, one of the men secretly stole all the money from Mr. Farrukh’s wallet while the other kept him engaged. After returning the wallet, the two men quickly fled the scene. Feeling suspicious, Mr. Farrukh checked his wallet and discovered that all his money was missing. He then reported the incident to the authorities.

Pattaya police are currently gathering clues about the suspects, using the victim’s statements and CCTV footage from the area.
