Naklua – In a coordinated operation early on September 16th, 2024, relevant authorities conducted a thorough inspection of foreign workers on fishing boats in Naklua The operation was personally led by Pol. Lt. Col. Wirachai Thinkamut, Chief of the Immigration Bureau in Chonburi.
The team, comprised of over 50 officers, responded to complaints about illegal aliens fishing in local waters. They spread out across the area, from Saphan Yao Na Kluea to Soi Sam Yaek Thammada, inspecting workers sorting seafood and checking identification documents. The inspection revealed several foreign workers of Burmese and Cambodian nationality, some of whom lacked proper documentation.
Further inspections along Khlong Banglamung targeted fishing groups employing foreign workers. Employers presented their workers’ documents for verification. Mr. Nattapong Wanphat explained that the operation was prompted by local Thai fishermen’s complaints about foreign workers fishing illegally and taking jobs from Thai citizens. The goal was to ensure all workers had the necessary permits.
Pol. Lt. Col. Ingkwat Kriangsinkulyot reported that 18 foreign workers’ documents were inspected to verify their validity. He emphasized the importance of accurately reporting the residence of hired foreign workers to facilitate tracking in case of incidents.
Captain Pinai Chinchai highlighted that the inspection also aimed to combat illegal fishing and human trafficking. He warned that legal action would be taken against any violations found. He also advised those fishing in small boats to stay informed about weather conditions and to report any sea disasters to the Marine Police at 1465, following THIS incident that took place yesterday.
