Pattaya authorities, in collaboration with local transport and Isuzu, have launched a safety campaign for Songthaew (Also called Baht Buses locally) drivers to enhance tourist safety and improve the city’s image following a recent tragic accident involving a foreign visitor.
On September 10th, 2024, at Central Pattaya Beach, Deputy Mayor Mr. Wuttisak Ruemkittikarn presided over the opening ceremony of the tourist safety campaign aimed at protecting tourists while using public transportation in Pattaya City. The event was attended by Pattaya Police Chief Pol. Col. Navin Theerawit, Mr. Rewat Siangchin, Chairman of Pattaya Transport Cooperative, representatives from Chonburi Isuzu, and Pattaya Transport Cooperative employees.
According to the officials, the campaign was initiated following an incident on July 22nd, 2024, when a foreign tourist tragically fell from a songthaew and died.
The campaign aims to educate tourists about the proper use of public transport, particularly songthaews. A total of 1,400 stickers in both English and Chinese have been handed out to tourists to remind them to press the bell before disembarking from the vehicle. The project also seeks to improve the city’s tourism image.
