Elderly Food Delivery Rider Killed After Driving Against Traffic in Pattaya

Pattaya —

A 67-year-old food delivery rider was killed, and a teenager was seriously injured in a head-on collision after the delivery rider drove against traffic in Pattaya.

At 12:00 PM on September 8th, 2024, the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Center received a report of a collision involving two motorcycles. The accident occurred near the Bali Hai Overpass in Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Rescue workers immediately rushed to the scene.

There, a gray-red Honda Wave 125 motorbike was found severely damaged at the front. Lying in a pool of blood nearby was Mr. Suwat Jonthaisong, a 67-year-old Grab Food delivery rider. He had a badly fractured right leg and a severe head wound. Rescuers attempted CPR, but Mr. Suwat succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His body was transferred to a local hospital.

Not far from Mr. Suwat, authorities found a 14-year-old male teenager (name withheld due to his age) lying unconscious with multiple abrasions. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. The teenager’s black Honda Scoopy motorbike was discovered badly damaged.

Mr. Phumipat, a motorcycle taxi driver who witnessed the incident, reported that while he was waiting for customers, he saw Mr. Suwat’s motorbike speeding against traffic. Mr. Suwat likely failed to notice the teenager heading for the overpass, resulting in a head-on collision. According to Mr. Phumipat, accidents frequently occur at this spot due to wrong-way driving.

Pattaya police are reviewing CCTV footage in the area to determine the exact cause of the accident. The deceased’s body will be kept at the hospital until relatives can claim the body for religious rites.
