Dogs in Pattaya Found with Mouth Covered and Water Bottles Hanging from Their Necks, Leading to Outrage from Animal Activists

Pattaya —

Dogs found with their mouths covered shut and water bottles hanging around their necks sparked outrage in Pattaya.

A Facebook user recently posted a photo of a group of dogs with their mouth taped shut, with the message: “I happened to deliver goods around there and wondered why their mouth was taped. Some are even taped tightly with electrical tape.” This post quickly sparked outrage among animal lovers, with some saying it was animal cruelty.

On September 9th, 2024, The Pattaya News reporters visited the incident scene on Soi 12 Pattaya-Naklua, and discovered nearly 10 dogs with their mouths covered shut. Some had water bottles tied around their necks, making their movements difficult and distressing to witness. However, it appeared their mouths were covered with perforated socks and not tape and could still allow the dog to drink and eat but not bite people.

A nearby security guard, who asked to keep his identity confidential, reported that the dogs are under care but are kept with their mouths covered at all times, except when being fed or watered. It is suspected that the dogs were taped because they barked and bit at tourists passing by the area.

Animal lovers are urging relevant authorities to investigate whether this treatment violates the Animal Welfare Act and if the dogs instead need proper muzzles.
