Saysunee Jana Wins Second Gold at Paris 2024 in Wheelchair Fencing

At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on September 4th, 2024, Thai national media reported the highlight for Thailand as wheelchair fencer Saysunee Jana clinched another gold medal.

Thai fencer Saysunee Jana, who already won gold in the sabre event, competed in the women’s foil Class B final. She faced China’s Xiao Long again, whom she defeated in the sabre final. Saysunee triumphed once more, winning 15-11 and securing her second gold, marking Thailand’s fifth gold medal.

In the men’s T53 100m wheelchair racing final, reigning Paralympic champion Pongsakorn Paeyo finished second with a time of 14.66 seconds, earning silver. Saudi Arabia took gold with 14.48 seconds, while Thailand’s Pichet Krungget came in sixth with 15.38 seconds.

In the men’s T54 100m wheelchair racing final, former champion Athiwat Paeng-nuea also took silver, finishing in 13.79 seconds, narrowly behind Mexico’s 13.74-second gold finish. Phiphatphong Sianglam placed eighth with 14.84 seconds.

In boccia, the Thai mixed BC4 team, comprising Phonchok Lapyen and Nuanchan Phonsila, lost 1-4 to Colombia in the semifinals and will now compete for bronze against Canada.
