On September 4th, 2024, Mukdahan immigration officers and Pa Rai police intercepted a suspicious vehicle smuggling 10 illegal Chinese migrants along a road in Don Tan District, Mukdahan, heading toward Loeng Nok Tha, Yasothon.
Acting on a tip-off, Mukdahan authorities set up surveillance, and around 11:00 PM, they spotted a suspicious pickup truck. When signaled to stop, the truck reportedly rammed through a police barrier and fled. Officers pursued and eventually stopped the vehicle.
According to the police, the driver, publicly identified only as Mr. Nampol, attempted to flee but was arrested. A search of his belongings revealed a Glock 19 pistol with two rounds of ammunition. His passenger, publicly identified only as Mr. Natthapol, also fled but was later arrested. Inside the truck, 10 Chinese nationals were reportedly found cramped in the back, along with over 100 mobile phones.
The Thai suspects were charged with assisting illegal entry and illegal possession of firearms. The 10 Chinese nationals were charged with unlawful entry. All suspects were handed over to the Pa Rai police for further legal proceedings.
