Group of Cambodians Attacks Two Thais After Noise Complaint in Pattaya

Pattaya —

A group of Cambodian men attacked two Thai residents with a knife after being confronted over loud noise at a building in Pattaya, leaving both injured.

At 12:36 AM on September 5th, 2024, Pattaya police received a report of a violent altercation between Cambodian and Thai people at a building in Soi Thepprasit 7 in Banglamung, Chonburi province. Officers immediately went to the scene, along with teams of rescue workers and The Pattaya News reporters.

Upon arrival, police found a large group of Cambodian nationals, most of whom work as ice cream vendors, living in the building. The two injured Thai victims, 36-year-old Mr. Suriya and 32-year-old Mr. Nat, had already been taken to a hospital before authorities arrived. Mr. Suriya sustained a deep cut on his wrist, which required over 12 stitches, while Mr. Nat suffered a head injury and minor scrapes. Police managed to detain one Cambodian suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Mr. Boonhat Phrai.

Mr. Nat, one the victims, later revealed to The Pattaya News that prior to the incident, Mr. Boonhat, the suspect who did not live full time at the building, was frequently causing loud noises. Mr. Nat had initially asked him to quiet down, and the man seemed to comply. However, when Mr. Nat repeated the request later, the man angrily retorted, “What are you going to do if I make noise?” before punching Mr. Nat, sparking a brawl. During the scuffle, the suspect’s sister got involved and allegedly attacked both Mr. Nat and Mr. Suriya with a knife, resulting in their injuries.

Pattaya police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the remaining suspects. They will also coordinate with immigration authorities to investigate the foreign vendors who may be working illegally.
