Pattaya —
A mudslide buried a construction worker while digging a drainage pipe in Pattaya, resulting in injuries.
At 10:36 AM on September 4th, 2024, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Center received a report of a mudslide that buried a worker while digging a drainage pipe. The incident occurred on Soi Wat Boon Samphan in Nongprue. Upon receiving the report, rescue workers and The Pattaya News reporters quickly rushed to the scene.
At the site, the responders found a large pit, approximately 5.5 meters deep, which was being dug to serve as a drainage pipe well. The mudslide had buried a Cambodian worker, identified only as Mr. Jin, 28 years old, completely. Fortunately, his coworkers managed to dig out enough soil to expose his head to allow him to breathe before the rescue team arrived. The rescue operation, which took over 30 minutes, was able to safely lift the injured worker out of the pit.
The rescue team provided first aid before urgently transporting Mr. Jin to a local hospital. According to Mr. Pooncharat Pasitsuphachot, a 55-year-old site supervisor, the incident occurred during pipe-laying work. He insisted that the sudden mud slide was purely a freak accident and was not caused by negligence. He believed it was likely caused by the heavy rains over the past two to three days, which had saturated the soil.
CCTV footage near the incident scene showed Mr. Jin, the injured Cambodian worker, preparing equipment before jumping into the pit to lay the drainage pipe. Less than 10 minutes later, the soil and mud at the edge of the pit began to collapse, burying Mr. Jin.
The worker is reported to be safe and set to recover.
