Pattaya City, Thailand – Young Thai WingFoil sensation and Pattaya resident, Thanawat “Shane” Promwaen, has jetted off to Juju Island, South Korea, to compete in the prestigious International Super Cup Kiteboarding Championship this weekend.
The 9-year-old phenom, who made history earlier this year by Kitefoiling across the Gulf of Thailand, is aiming to gain invaluable experience on the world stage as he continues his journey towards the Youth Olympics.
Already a seasoned competitor, Shane has consistently impressed with his skill and determination. Last year, he secured a remarkable 4th place finish at the same event at Juju Island, a testament to his incredible talent. Now, with even more training under his belt, Shane is eager to push his limits and compete against the best in the sport.
“I’m so excited to be here in South Korea,” Shane said. “I’ve been practicing hard, and I can’t wait to see what I’m capable of. My dream is to represent Thailand at the Youth Olympics, and this competition is a great step towards that goal.”
Shane’s dedication to his craft is evident in his relentless training schedule. After school, he spends countless hours honing his skills on the water, driven by his passion for windsurfing. His idol, Joseph Jonathan Weston, a Thai kiteboarding athlete who competed in the Paris 2024 Olympics, serves as a constant inspiration.
Following his South Korean adventure, Shane will be heading to China on the 15th of September to compete in the Formula Kite and TT:R Open Asian Championships. As he continues to make waves in the world of windsurfing, Shane’s future looks incredibly bright.
