In the 100m wheelchair race, T34 class final on September 2nd, 2024, Thailand’s elite wheelchair racer “Beam†Chaiwat Rattana clinched his third gold medal for the country, finishing with a time of 14.76 seconds.
Chaiwat broke his own Paralympic record of 14.81 seconds, set during the qualifiers, and defeated the defending champion, Walid Ktila of Turkey, who had clocked 15.01 seconds at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020.
This marks Thailand’s third gold at the 2024 Paralympics, adding to earlier victories by Pongsakorn Paeyo in the men’s 400m T53 wheelchair race and Worawut Saengampa in the men’s individual boccia, BC2 class.
As of now, Thailand’s Paralympic team has secured a total of 13 medals: 3 gold (2 in wheelchair racing, 1 in boccia), 4 silver (2 in table tennis, 1 in wheelchair racing, 1 in badminton), and 6 bronze (2 in badminton, 2 in table tennis, 1 in taekwondo, 1 in boccia).
China remains the leader with 38 gold medals, followed by the United Kingdom with 25, and the United States in third place with 11 golds.
