Severe Storms Cause Widespread Flooding in Pattaya, Stranding Boats and Uprooting Trees

Pattaya —

Torrential downpours accompanied by powerful winds battered Pattaya late last night, leading to widespread flooding that submerged major roads, stranded numerous boats along the shoreline, and toppled trees across the city.

At 11:00 PM on September 1st, 2024, The Pattaya News reporters observed severe weather conditions in Pattaya, where heavy rain and strong gusts of wind persisted for over half an hour.

The downpour caused water levels to rise rapidly, leading to widespread flooding in various areas. Areas that are prone to flooding during prolonged rain, such as Sukhumvit Road in South Pattaya, Third Road, and the road along to the railway, were significantly affected, with water levels reaching between 10 to over 80 centimeters.

The water made it impossible for small vehicles to pass through, prompting relevant authorities to set up barriers to prevent motorcycles and small cars from entering the heavily flooded areas for safety reasons. However, several motorcycles attempting to cross the water encountered engine failure and sustained damage.

As the rain began to subside, the floodwaters gradually receded, leaving behind debris such as garbage, plastic bags, bottles, and tree branches strewn across the roads. Authorities are clearing this debris to restore cleanliness.

Apart from the flooding, The Pattaya News reporters reported that garbage and a waste transport boat were pushed ashore by strong sea waves near Walking Street. Fortunately, the boat did not sustain any damage. Along Pattaya Beach, several speedboats were also found stranded on the shore due to the rough waves, and numerous sea almond trees planted along the beachfront were uprooted by the strong winds, causing them to topple over.
