On September 1st, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department issued a warning of heavy rain to very heavy rain in parts of the Lower Northern, Lower Northeastern, Central, Eastern, and Southern Thailand from September 3-7.
During this period, a moderate monsoon trough will move across Northern, Central, and Northeastern Thailand into a strong low-pressure system over the central South China Sea. This, combined with moderate southwestern monsoon winds over the Andaman Sea, the South, the East, and the Gulf of Thailand, will result in heavy rainfall in some areas, including Bangkok and its vicinity.
Increased wave activity is expected, with waves in the Andaman Sea reaching 2-3 meters, and over 3 meters in stormy areas. The upper Gulf of Thailand will see waves of about 2 meters, with higher waves in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to exercise caution.
The meteorological department also warned of Tropical Storm SHANSHAN over southern Kansai, Japan, and advised travelers to monitor weather conditions. The storm will not impact Thailand’s weather.
