Pattaya Authorities Warn Pattaya Nightlife Venues Against Laughing Gas Balloon Sales

Pattaya —

At 8:30 PM on August 30th, 2024, officers from the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division, in collaboration with Pattaya City police, conducted inspections of entertainment venues in Pattaya. The operation aimed to prevent the illegal sale of laughing gas balloons and prostitution.

More than 20 officers reportedly patrolled the pub and beer bar areas, focusing on establishments decorated with balloons. Signs in Thai and English were displayed, warning operators against selling nitrous oxide-filled balloons or laughing gas balloons to tourists.

Nitrous oxide is legally classified as a hospital anesthetic used before surgery or dental procedures. However, inhaling large quantities can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, unconsciousness, and long-term use can lead to nerve damage or even death, according to the police.
Offenders selling nitrous oxide will face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 10,000 baht under the Drug Act. Reports of illegal activity can be made via the 191 hotline.
