Pheu Thai Rules Out Coalition with Palang Pracharath, Eyes New Partners

National —

On August 27th, 2024, Sorawong Thienthong, MP for Sa Kaeo and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, gave an interview following the party’s executive committee meeting.

Sorawong conveyed the concerns of Pheu Thai MPs to the meeting, stating that they could not work with the Palang Pracharath Party, especially with its leader, Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon. Since the establishment of Srettha Thavisin’s government, Gen. Prawit has shown little interest and failed to participate in key votes, said Sorawong. This, along with alleged efforts to remove Srettha—known to be backed by certain figures—was a significant issue for the Pheu Thai MPs.

Regarding future coalition-building, Sorawong said the party would move quickly, sending official invitations to all potential allies.

When asked about working with Capt. Thammanat Prompao’s group, Sorawong indicated that discussions were likely, as they have cooperated with Pheu Thai in the past, according to Thai national media.

Similarly, Sorawong suggested that talks with the Democrat Party could also happen, aiming to strengthen government stability. However, any ministerial positions would be decided firmly by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
