Pattaya —
A car crashed into a motorcycle on an overpass in Pattaya, injuring four people, including two children.
At 8:00 PM on August 24th, 2024, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Center received a report of a car colliding with a motorcycle. The accident occurred on the Nongprue overpass in the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Rescue workers immediately went to the scene.
Upon arrival, the rescue teams found a blue-and-black Honda Wave 110i motorcycle lying damaged in the middle of the road. Approximately 20 meters away, there were four injured individuals.
The first was Ms. Nee (surname withheld by rescuers), a 38-year-old Burmese national who was the motorcycle’s rider. She sustained a head injury and a broken leg. Her two daughters, aged 2 and 6, were also injured and lying beside her. Additionally, her 41-year-old brother, Mr. Sui (surname also withheld by rescuers), also a Burmese national, suffered a head injury. Rescue personnel provided first aid before urgently transporting all of them to a nearby hospital.
The other vehicle involved was a black Nissan sedan with damage on the left front side. The Thai driver, Mr. Wutthikorn, 37, was waiting at the scene to provide his statement to police.
According to Mr. Wutthikorn, he attempted to overtake the motorcycle before accidentally crashing into it, causing the motorcycle to skid along the road for over 20 meters, resulting in the injuries. Mr. Wutthikorn was unharmed but reportedly admitted to police he had been drinking alcohol. He is also, according to Nongprue police, an architect and deputy inspector from the Nongprue Municipality Engineering Division.
Nongprue police took Mr. Wutthikorn into custody and will proceed with legal actions against him including taking a breath alcohol test.
